Hi, I'm Nyki Caldwell.

I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the state of Maryland who offers virtual and in-person therapy to adults. I identify as a humanistic therapist - I strive to help you develop a strong and healthy sense of self, identify your needs, explore your truth, and trust your strengths and inner knowing. I am passionate about helping folks find ease and alignment within themselves, their relationships, and their environment. As someone who deeply values voice, I seek to help you hear and honor yours.

Therapy can offer companionship to our most vulnerable, isolating, and confusing realities. My experience includes clients struggling with anxiety, depression, relational issues, major life transitions, as well as trauma and PTSD. I enjoy working with clients of all backgrounds and identities including, but not limited to, straight and LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, person’s of faith, folks with alternative lifestyles, and military veterans. I want to understand you holistically and am comfortable and competent discussing experiences related to race, ethnicity, culture, injustice, oppression, sexuality, religion, and spirituality.

My Style

As the saying goes, "traveler, there is no trail, the path is made by walking." Good news is, we don't have to walk alone.

Therapy with me is conversational and easygoing. I welcome humor and can be counted on to offer a good analogy or metaphor here and there. My guiding values are compassion, curiosity, and truth. We'll develop a cadence that feels familiar and invites us both to bring our authentic selves to our space. I prioritize developing a trusted relationship with you and fostering a space that feels safe enough to be vulnerable, honest, and compassionately challenged. I will support you in pursuing a self-examined life and honing new skills.

My approach to therapy is eclectic. Existential theory allows us to be curious about the bigger questions in life related to death, freedom, responsibility, and meaning in life. Person-centered therapy prioritizes your agency and expertise on your life. Cognitive-behavioral therapy explores the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and offers us tangible, action-oriented steps to change your habits and circumstances. Whether you're new to therapy, returning for deep-processing or general maintenance, I offer you a warm and open invitation to come, sit, and figure things out with me.

My background & training

I was born and raised in Michigan, just outside of Ann Arbor. I obtained my bachelor’s in health and exercise science with a minor in Psychology from Wake Forest University, where I competed in Division 1 athletics as a high jumper on the women’s track and field team. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. I am trained in yoga teaching and completed my RYT-200 from Grace Yoga Studio in 2015. I know first-hand the power of movement as a modality to wellness and healing. My professional career started in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) consulting. Today, I leverage these roots to nurture the intersection of mental health, equity, belonging, and wellbeing.
